Slow Riding Workshop

Members and Associates are reminded that the Slow Riding Workshop scheduled for Sunday 24th April has had to be postponed. This is due to our friends at A2B Motorcycle Training not working at the site that day. A2B store all our equipment for slow riding and also provide the essential toilet facilities.

The provisional rearranged date is Sunday 29th May at the Knaresborough Technology Park. This has yet to be finally confirmed with the car park owners.

I am conscious that this is a date during the bank holiday weekend. If that means you would not be able to come and you had hoped to do so, please email me because it would not be worthwhile to proceed on a date that was generally inconvenient or unpopular.

A final notification will be posted in due course.

With best wishes

Donation to Air Ambulance

Dear John Blanchfield,

On behalf of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Charity we would like to thank you for your generous online corporate donation of £95.00

The YAA currently operates two helicopters – one based at Nostell Air Support Unit, near Wakefield and the other at RAF Topcliffe, near Thirsk. Both of which can be airborne in just two minutes, flying at speeds of up to 160mph. We currently attend over 1000 missions a year, an average of 3 incidents every single day.

  • 90% of YAA patients are flown to one of the region’s four Major Trauma Centres: Leeds General Infirmary, Sheffield Northern General, Hull Royal Infirmary or James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.
  • 90% of all emergency missions result in a patient receiving expert clinical treatment from YAA aircrew paramedics or doctors.
  • 90% of Yorkshire’s population live within a maximum of 20 minutes’ flying time of the two YAA Air Support Units.

As you are probably aware it costs the charity £12,000 every day to keep both our helicopters maintained and in the air. Every donation we receive will help us to carry on flying and saving lives across the region seven days a week, 365 days a year and we are extremely grateful for your support. Thank you for thinking of The Yorkshire Air Ambulance and supporting our work.

Yours sincerely

A Turner

Saving Lives Across Yorkshire

Wednesday Ride Out – 13th April

Meet Ripley car park 9.15 for a 9.30am start.

The route takes the A61 north from Ripley before turning east on minor roads through Bishop Monkton and Roecliffe to Boroughbridge then on to Tollerton and Huby before turning north through Ampleforth to Helmsley for the morning coffee stop.

From Helmsley we’ll head further north on single track roads to Bransdale then loop back down the other side of the valley towards Fadmoor then on to Rosedale for lunch. This is a fabulously scenic road, especially on a good day (so fingers crossed!).

The return journey heads north east to Egton Bridge, Grosmont and Sleights then south down the A169 to Pickering. After Pickering, we’ll turn right off the A169 to Kirby Misperton then minor roads again passing Ampleforth College and on to Byland Abbey for the afternoon coffee stop. Finally on to Coxwold, Rainton and Ripon before heading back to Ripley on the A61.

Mileages: 67m OUT and 81m IN

Hope you can join us.

Postponent of Slow Riding workshop on 24th April

I aopologise for the short notice to members and associates but the Slow Riding workshop that I had arranged for the morning of Sunday 24th of April in Knaresborough has had to be postponed.

The facilities and equipment that we need are not available on that day. Without our cones or access to a toilet etc., the event would be greatly compromised.

A new date will be notified as soon as possible. Please would all observers ensure that this postponement is brought to the attention of associates, who may not receive this message.

Thank you for your understanding.

The Harrogate Advanced Bikes meeting on 11th April

The Harrogate Advanced Bikes meeting on 11th April is at Bilton Cricket Club, Bilton Lane, Harrogate HG1 3DQ. at 7:00 for 7:30.

British APCO (the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials), on behalf of the Government 999 Liaison Committee, has launched the 999 App Certification scheme providing a route for developers to propose Apps that will automatically and directly link to the relevant emergency service via the 999 system in a time of need.
The first App to be certified by the panel is REALRIDER®, a motorcycle App designed to keep riders safe and connected. Created by innovative SME Realsafe Technologies, REALRIDER® crash alerts send a motorcyclist’s last known GPS location and medical details to the nearest ambulance service, via BT’s 999 emergency service, within minutes of a crash.
Andrew Richardson, Chief Commercial Officer of Realsafe Technologies Ltd, (Parent Company of REALRIDERS) is coming to the meeting on the 11th and will give an overview on the new App and how the 999 accreditation was achieved.
