IAM RoadSmart Advanced Rider Training and Test

 What is the cost of training and the test?

The IAM RoadSmart Advanced Rider course costs £215 for training which also includes the test. HAB also ask for a £15 donation per observed ride for fuel and tyres for the observer to cover costs.

Why take your Advanced Rider Test?

Advanced Riders are less likely to be involved in road collisions.

How long is each training session rideout?

A training session normally lasts 1.5 to 2 hours.

What does the test comprise of and how long will it last?

The test lasts roughly 1.5 hours on a mix of all road types.

Will my insurance cover my training?

Yes, and HAB also has insurance.

When do you take the test?

At a convenient time arranged between you and the examiner.

Does the examiner follow you on your bike?

Yes.

Are bike to bike communications used?

No.

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes.

Can I progress further after passing my test?

You could take an active part in the Group and qualify as a National Observer to train other associates. You can then progress to a Senior Observer. Many groups have an active social calendar. Monthly meetings and ride outs. Short weekend tours and other biking events. You do not have to give up when you pass your test.

Can I obtain a discount on my insurance?

Yes, most motorcycle insurers recognise the IAM RoadSmart Advanced Rider Certificate and offer you a Discount.

Rideouts

What is the schedule for rideouts?

HAB runs monthly rideouts throughout the year. These are planned for the first Wednesday and third Sunday of each month. Details of monthly rideouts are published on the HAB website and are communicated to all members roughly a week before they are planned to take place.
