Sunday 20th October – Northern Dales & Rivers Ride

River Belah-Roaring River

October’s Sunday’s ride was traditionally the last of our Sunday riding season (although now we ride through the winter months as last year). One not to be missed, we meet as usual at 0900am for a 09.30am start at Asda Lorry Park, Dragon Road, Harrogate.

Heading over the River Nidd, past Ripley and onto Brimham Rocks, crossing the River Skell at Dallow Moor, and the Laver at Laverton. Into Masham via River Burn, onto Wensleydale, staying north of the River Ure to Leyburn and onto the Manor Farm Cafe, Bellerby DL8 5QH, popular bikers meeting point, where we can take tea and whatever takes your fancy.

We now take the high road via Marske to Fremington in Swaledale, then through Arkengarthdale past Tan Hill and onto River Belah, Kaber and Kirkby Lonsdale (Fuel Stop).  Crossing the River Eden, to Nateby, then Birkdale and into Thwaite in Swaledale stopping for lunch at the excellent Kearton Country House Hotel DL11 6DR.

After a great lunch we head east to Muker, then over the tops to Askrigg and onto Aysgarth where we cross the River Ure. Heading south through Bishopdale, and Wharfedale to Threshfield where we turn for Stump Cross Caverns, where our ride will finish.

Andrew Pratt will lead this 122 mile ride, with Bob Hill at our tail end.
