Harrogate Advanced Bikes 2026 AGM Monday 11th May

Dear Members,

This is a reminder that the AGM will be held during our May meeting, next Monday the 11th at 7.30pm. I know that some of you will be away on the Spring Trip but other HAB members please make every effort to attend.

There are no contested committee positions, so the election of the Officers and other committee members should be completely straightforward.

I look forward to seeing those who can make it there and, for those of you who will be away, at some point in the future.

Below you can click on the download buttons to view the committee reports, Chairman, Treasurer, Chief Observer and Ride-Out Coordinator and other relevant documents. Just click on the links to read the file.

HAB/IAM T-Shirts

Hi All,

Derek Saunders has been working on a scheme to supply T-Shirts to HAB Club members with the addition of the HAB logo he designed and now adopted by the club (stickers available free by request at HAB meetings).

Anyone wishing to purchase the T-shirts or any other garment from the catalogue please email the details to Derek together with their size (see size chart download below and website address link below) he will place an order on your behalf. Hopefully a sufficient number will be required so we can take advantage of the free delivery on orders over £50.

ds55dcs@outlook.com

The price of those purchased recently were £14 each which includes the addition of the IAM and HAB logo.

Below are four photos of the T-shirt with our embroidered logos together with a download link to a sizing chart.  The following weblink is to the supplying company. They offer a wide selection of garments that can be embroidered albeit given the black border of the HAB logo dark garments probably wouldn’t be suitable.

HAB April News & Updates

Hi All HAB members

Don’t forget it’s our HAB Monthly Meeting with Paul Varnsverry from PVE-PPE talking about “The Fight Against Fake Bike Kit” on Monday evening 13th April. You can read about it with these links:

Some other opportunities have also arisen for HAB members to take advantage of:.

HAB Spring Trip.

Unfortunately someone has had to drop out of the HAB 4-Day (3 Nights) Trip starting on Monday May 11th. As numbers are limited to just twelve, an additional club member can come along for this 4 day ride if they chose. You can view the full trip details with this webpage address:

To book please contact John Blanchfield onjohnblanchfield@talktalk.net.

April Sunday Ride-Out.

Due to a change we need a Ride Leader and indeed a TEC volunteer for the Sunday 19th April Ride Out. Hopefully a fully paid up HAB member can come forward at short notice to seal the gap. If you haven’t lead a Ride-Out before, all the help you need is available. We also have the option of running the Ride-Out on Sunday 26th April if that suits the potential Ride Leader. Please get in touch with me on 07847 786608 if you can lead on either of those dates.

Harrogate Advanced Bikes April 13th Club Meeting

All of you will have noticed we are well into spring now and already we have had some splendid Ride-Out’s. No doubt there will be lots of opportunities for excellent riding to come.

Our monthly HAB Club Meeting is on Monday 13th. As usual the venue is Bilton Cricket Club, Bilton Lane, Harrogate HG1 3DQ. Start time is 7.30pm so please arrive in good time to get yourself a drink and a seat.

For this meeting Paul Varnsverry, Technical director of PVA-PPE, has agreed to talk to our club about the essential safety aspects of buying and wearing appropriate motorcycle clothing for our riding activities.

Paul Varnsverry is widely recognised for his work on motorcycle clothing standards and his efforts to help riders avoid unsafe products. Originally a manufacturer of bespoke garments, he went on to apply his expertise to mainstream clothing and rider protection. For over three decades, Paul has contributed on a pro bono basis as a member of British and European standards committees. He also serves as a specialist technical advisor to the National Police Chiefs’ Council’s motorcycling lead, writes a weekly column for Motorcycle News, and supports Trading Standards officers in identifying and investigating rogue sellers. In this presentation, Paul will explain how PPE legislation applies to motorcycle clothing, outline the relevant standards, and show how riders can verify whether products have been properly tested and certified. He will also expose the tactics used by rogue online vendors to mislead consumers into buying unsafe, non-compliant gear.

We have invited members of neighbouring IAM group YAM and Paul has travelled a good distance to give us this valuable information so please make an effort to attend this meeting if you can.

Barry Ring will lead an hour’s Ride-In by request and weather permitting. You can contact him on 07847 786608.

HAB Sunday 22nd March Ride-Out

A Dip into the Peak District

The Strines Inn Bradfield

This month’s Sunday Social Ride-Out is a whistle stop journey south from the lorry park on Dragon Road, Harrogate (HG1 5DB). Meeting from 9.00am and setting off promptly at 9.30am after a pre-ride briefing.

Heading south to Wetherby on the A661 and onto the old A1(A168). Once past Wetherby we ride through bits of West Yorkshire you might not see-all bypassed by the A1M. It doesn’t take long to reach Pontefract and a ride through the town stopping for our morning break at Farmer Copley’s Moo Cafe, Ravensknowle Farm, Pontefract Road WF7 5AF.  After a chat, a coffee and a snack its southwards again towards Penistone and on to the stunning Mortimer Road with switchbacks and surprise corners good enough to grace an alpine road. Just as you are getting into the groove we will reach our lunch venue at the Strines Inn in the Peak District (S6 6JE) overlooking it’s very own reservoir. We will need to book in so please get in touch with me as soon as you can (07847 786608-by text is best) so we can give the Inn an idea of the required numbers. You never know we may end up with decent weather and sit outside.

After lunch and riding a mile or so south again we join the A57 westwards to join Snake Road past Ladybower Reservoir. It’s a little calmed these days with a 50mph limit and policed too, but you may get a careful overtaking opportunity in, and the bends are certainly entertaining. Glossop is just up the road and is usually busy, so it’s straight through town up to the A628 Manchester/Woodhead Road and a run up Holme Moss, through Holmfirth, onward towards Denby Dale and a stop for fuel if needed. It’s not far to join the M1 northbound at junction 39. The final part of the route will follow the motorway and will finish the ride at the Wetherby Services on the A1M. Please inform the ride leader and/or TEC if you are leaving the ride before we reach the finish.

Total mileage is 138 and includes a stint on the M1 at the end of the ride. Link to Myrouteapp or GPX file download below.

I hope you can make it, please get in touch on the number below.

Ride leader Barry Ring (07847 786608) TEC Richard Smith.

Please note: If you are a paid up IAM and HAB Member or Associate you can join our official club Ride Outs. For anyone else interested in Advanced Riding please view more information at: https://www.harrogateadvancedbikes.co.uk
