HAB Development Ride 3rd October 2026

Dear Members,

Following on from the excellent training ride carried out by Martyn and Hugh last Sunday, the next session as part of our rider development initiative is on Saturday 3rd October.

The purpose of these development rides is to brush up on Advanced riding techniques as laid out in the IAM handbook and Roadcraft, and to share our thoughts and analysis of riding in a constructive and supportive environment.

The theme of the next session will cover roundabouts, corners, and overtaking.

The morning will be led by Hugh Dixon and Paul Dresser. Please plan to meet at Morrisons Ripon (HG4 2RU) at 8:45 for a 9:15 start.

Ride Plan:

  – First Leg: Led by Hugh (Paul TEC). We will take in the 5 consecutive roundabouts on the Ripon ring road/bypass and then head out towards Bedale, stopping briefly at Mowbray School for a short debrief. We will then continue the ride to finish at Morrisons Boroughbridge after 36 miles and about an hour in the saddle.
  – Second Leg: Led by Paul (Hugh TEC) following another short briefing, we will head through Minskip, Knaresborough (with a brief debrief stop at St James Retail Park), Wetherby, up to the A64, out to the York ring road, and back to finish at Tim’s Cafe in Thorp Arch. This leg is roughly another 36 miles and 1hr 15min of riding.

We will wrap up the ride around lunchtime with a debrief, chat, and coffee to share our thoughts and experiences.

The aim of these rides is to provide a half-day of development and self-analysis, in a friendly and supportive environment and we hope as many as possible will join us.

Hugh Dixon and Paul Dresser
