HAB weekday ride out – Wednesday 5th July 2023 – North Lincolnshire

Meet from 9.15am for a 9.30am prompt start at the North Street/St. James Street car park (next to North Street Deli) in Wetherby.

From Wetherby we’ll head east across the A1 to Walton Road, through Wighill and on to Tadcaster. A162 south out of Tadcaster and through Sherburn-in-Elmet to South Milford where we’ll stop for coffee.

Coffee stop: T-Post Café, South Milford LS25 5AQ.

Continuing south through Monk Fryston and Hillam and on to Beal, picking up the A645 on the approach to Eggborough. Avoiding the M62 and M18 we’ll pick up the A614 to go south through Thorne then east to the outskirts of Scunthorpe.  Now south passing Messingham and Kirton-in-Lindsey before arriving at our lunch destination.

Lunch stop: Uncle Henry’s Farm Shop, Grayingham DN21 4JD.

After lunch we’ll head cross country before picking up the A15 heading north and across the Humber Bridge. North of the Humber and now continuing north again on country roads through Little Weighton, Walkington and Cherry Burton before picking up the B1248. Continuing on the B1248 to the A166 where we turn left, through Fridaythorpe to continue west for about 10 miles, then turning right on back roads through Sand Hutton and Claxton to reach the A64. Turn left on A64 then immediately right to take the back road to Strensall, Sutton-on-the-Forest and Huby. Dog-leg across the A19 to Tollerton, Helperby and turning left after Thornton Bridge to finish at Morrisons Boroughbridge car park.

Yorkshire Motorcycle Show

Information courtesy of David Haywood, in case you’re not doing the HAB Ride-Out tomorrow, this might suit you for a day out. Local event, not expensive, and all in aid of local charities too.

Aire Valley Classic Motorcycle Club, formerly Steeton-based Girder Fork, is once again staging its Big Bike Sunday.

A range of classic and modern machines will be on display at the event, at Skipton Auction Mart on June 25.

Last year’s show was a record breaker, raising £4,500 for charities including Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice Manorlands and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The event features two and three-wheeled vehicles, from 50cc mopeds to trikes powered by car engines.

Roy Beniston is taking us to Glasson Lock on the west coast near Lancaster LA2 0BY.

  • 9.00am for 9.30am Start – Asda Lorry Park with full tanks & empty bladders please.
  • A59 out of Harrogate toward Skipton.
  • Right turn onto B6160 for Bolton Abbey.
  • Left at Linton [by-passing Grassington] to join B6265.
  • Take right at Gracoe for Hetton, Winterburn, Carlton, Airton & Otterburn.
  • Take a right to join A65 at Hellifield & onto Long Preston.
  • Take sharp left onto B6478 onto Tosside then to Slaidburn for a coffee stop. BB7 3ES
  • Continue on B6478 & at Newton take a right toward Dunlop Bridge & Trough of Bowland.
  • After Marshaw, take a left towards Street & Scorton.
  • At Long Lane take right fork onto Trough Road.
  • Continue onto Chipping Road.
  • Over M6 then over A6 at “Crossroads”.
  • Continue and take left at A588 junction.
  • Then immediate right onto B5290 to Glasson Dock.
  • Lunch stop, alfresco dining, at the Lockeepers Rest with free bike parking (toilets over the road 40p charge) or the Quayside Cafe and other options if you prefer indoors.

  • Leave on B52990 then turn right onto A588.
  • Branch left at Cockerham onto B5972.
  • At traffic lights turn right onto A6.
  • At Shell Petrol Station [Fuel stop if required] take immediate left onto New Lane.
  • Take next right onto Duckette Lane, then branch left onto May Lane.
  • Head towards Cloughton.
  • After Cloughton take a right onto Brock Lane then right onto White Lane.
  • Left onto Bleasdale Road and continue onto Oakenclough Road.
  • Left onto Fiddlers Lane then right onto Collins Hill Lane.
  • Cont onto Chipping then Clitheroe.
  • Take main thro. traffic route through Clitheroe.
  • Turn left at the Petrol Station and head for Chatburn.
  • Cross over the roundabout and onto Chatburn.
  • On main street take a right to Rimington
  • Cross over the A59 heading still for Rimington. 
  • Cont. thro. Rimington on Rimington Lane.
  • Turn left onto A682 for Gisburn.
  • At Gisburn turn right onto A59.
  • Continue on A59 to Skipton & Harrogate.
  • Destination Stop at the “Curious Cow” on A59.

HAB Mid-Week Ride – Wednesday 14th June

For June’s Mid-Week ride we’re heading for the North York Moors.

We’ll meet at Morrisons Boroughbridge YO51 9UR at 09.15 for a 09.30 depart, heading via Thornton Bridge, Brafferton, Ampleforth, Hovingham, & Butterwick to NY500 Cafe, Malton Road, Pickering, YO18 8EA where we’ll break for coffee.

After our break we’re north via Pickering to Egton Bridge, then west on some high moorland roads to the Yorkshire Cycle Hub,  Fryup Gill Farm, Great Fryup, YO21 2AP where we’ll take lunch.

Following lunch, we’re heading back to Boroughbridge, via Westerdale, Chop Gate, Hawnby, Kilburn, the Sessays & Thornton Bridge. 

Andrew will lead this 121 miler, hope that you can join us.

HAB 12th June Ride-In and Club Meeting

As Summer continues apace, join us for our June Club Meeting and evening Ride-In starting at Ripon Market Place HG4 1BW (free bike parking).

Gather at 6.00pm to set off at 6.15 pm. Some coffee shops in the market place are still open at 5.30pm so get an early coffee in. About an hour’s ride will then get us to Bilton Cricket Club HG1 3DQ in time for our meeting start at 7.30pm.

For about an hour, the ride will take us eastwards towards Boroughbridge and further on with a play on the lanes around the Ouseburns, southwards close to Wetherby, Spofforth, south of Harrogate and on to the Cricket Club. No pressure to keep up, route deviations will be marked.

Ride leader Barry Ring. Looking for a Tail-End-Charlie, so have a go if you haven’t tried it before.

No speaker this month so enjoy the evening on the ride and any club news and a chat with your colleagues at Bilton Cricket Club.

HAB Dales Ride Sunday 21st May

Meeting at Dragon Road Lorry park in Harrogate next to ASDA (HG1 5DE) with fuel available there. Arrive from 9.00am with a prompt getaway planned for 9.30am after a ride briefing.

Join Richard Stembrowicz for a ride around the Dales. Riding on familiar roads taking us west on the A59, turning north on the B6265 up through Cracoe, Threshfield and left onto the B6160 towards Kettlewell. Before we get to Kettlewell a stop at Kinsey Park Cafe (BD23 5PS) for a morning break. Get your breakfast or just a coffee.

Setting off again heading north again towards Kettlewell, Buckden and West Burton, making a couple of left turns and across the A684 turning right, passing Aysgarth Falls and on towards Carperby. Carrying along this minor road to Newbiggin and on to Reeth for lunch at The King’s Arms for a light bite or Sunday roast. For parking you will need to fit in somewhere, but we are planning an early lunch at 12.30 so it should be quieter at that time.

After lunch, setting off southwards across Grinton Moor going over the army ranges towards Leyburn. Then its the A6108 all the way back to Ripon, left at the Clock Tower, joining the bypass southwards towards Harrogate on the A61 and finishing our ride at Ripley (HG3 3AX).

Approximately 100 miles so we shouldn’t need a fuel stop.

Monday 15th Evening’s Ride-In to The Harrogate Advanced Bike’s AGM Meeting at Bilton Cricket Club

A summer’s evening Ride-In starting at the Route 59 Cafe on the Skipton Road near Bolton Bridge. Gather at 6.00pm to set off at 6.15 pm. (Sorry the cafe will be closed at that time). About 50 minutes ride will get us to Bilton Cricket Club in time for the meeting. The ride will take us up Beamsley Hill and over the bridge between the Fewston and Swinsty reservoirs.

The weather forecast for tomorrow is sunny so I hope you can make it. Extra Iron-Butt points for anyone who went on the Scotland trip and makes the evening ride!

Buffet food available after the AGM business is concluded.

Meeting at The Curious Cow, Killinghall, Harrogate HG3 2AP (junction A59/B61610). Get there from 9.30am, with a prompt departure at 10.00am.

A Dales day out taking in 10 reservoirs on familiar roads with a few less used twisties mixed in for good measure. We’ll head south initially, then we will wind our way north to Masham for our morning coffee stop. (1.5 Hrs approx). Border Tea Rooms or Corner Cafe-your choice.

From Masham to Kettlewell and on to Hawes for 2nd stop for lunch at The Upstairs Cafe on the Main Street. (1.5 Hrs approx).

Finishing at Stump Cross Caverns via Grassington.

In total about 130 miles.
