“Crafty Plugger”

Wednesday Ride Report & Puncture Advice

Great ride today, thanks to David’s route planning around East Yorkshire, & unseasonably warm November weather and of course great company. Great lunch in Scagglethorpe, lots of dry twisties, plenty of muddy ones too.

One of our party suffered a puncture, caused by a piece of stone, which left a hole size of a biro. i.e. massive. Tire repair foam applied, no use whatsoever.

I applied my “Crafty Plugger” (rats tails) kit, which has never failed repairs for me (unlike “mushrooms”, & aforesaid foam). It took 3 strings to seal the hole, the most I’ve ever had to use, but it worked. Pumped up with 4 CO2 canisters, and we were gingerly away.

No leaks after an hour or so. & our rider rode home safely

I have championed “Crafty Plugger” before, a couple of riders asked me to remind them where to buy: http://craftyplugger.com

You also need a means to pump your tyre up, I favour CO2 mini bottles, with a applicator tool. Buy at cycle shops (Halfords, Evans), or, cheaper online.

All the best

Success!

Hi All

Monday evening’s meeting went well, despite the lack of a speaker. I hope the impromptu film was sufficiently interesting.  A big thank you to Peter for being master of ceremonies.

Here are some photos of the new test pass graduates receiving their certificates and much sort after IAM mug. Congratulations to Gordon Atkinson F1RST pass, observer David Cranswick. Tim Fryer F1RST pass, observer Bob Hill. Adrian Waterhouse pass, only one point off a F1RST, observer John Blanchfield. In Bob’s words “Great results for the Associates, the Club and the Observer Team. Well done. We have achieved 3 First out of 13 test passes this year”.

Apparently the Wednesday HAB riders had splendid weather.  The weather forecast for this coming Sunday’s ride is very promising too.  So see you all on Sunday?

All the best

Monday Meeting Reminder

Hi All

Just a reminder about tonight’s Meeting at Bilton Cricket Club.  A social meeting as no speaker I’m afraid.  As usual, however, the normal plentiful and delicious food will be provided.  Also if we can surmount any technical hurdles we can watch a motorbike related film which I hope you will enjoy.

Looking forward to seeing as many of you that can make it this evening.

Best regards

Barry

We’ve visited Kearton Hotel several times, hopefully the route will be a little different to previous.  A shorter ride this month, 102 miles, having regard to early darkness and potential inclement weather.

Lakeside Farm Shop & Country Café, DL10 6AP

Now we head west, through Richmond and up through Swaledale, to Thwaite for lunch at:

Kearton Country Hotel, Thwaite, DL11 6DR

Stop Press-Sunday Ride Outs to Continue Though Winter

Well, I’m pleased to say, following a positive discussion during the October Sunday ride, and during the last committee meeting, a decision has been made to continue Sunday rides during the winter.  That’s great news for lovers of our day long rides.  Andrew Pratt has offered to lead a ride in November and Chris Armstrong in December.

Any member who fancies leading another of the winter rides, particularly someone who has not done so before is invited to do so.  Any advice required can be given.

Details of November’s Sunday ride will follow soon.
