HAB Ride-Outs, Meetings & Upcoming Events 2024/25

Hello All

It’s nearly Christmas and before we start thinking about 2025 we do still have a few events to carry us through the rest of this year.

David Haywood’s Mid-Week Xmas Lunch and Ride-Out goes ahead tomorrow 4th December.

Not all the available bookings are taken and there is still time to put yourself down for an early Christmas lunch, whether you join us for the Ride-Out or travel to the venue by car. Meeting at Ripley 9.45am for a prompt 10.00am start. Brief stop at Bedale DL8 1AF for a coffee and on to the Bay Horse at Great Broughton TS9 7HA for lunch. Route home to be decided on the day. Total ride probably less than 100 miles.

The details and menu for the lunch are in the October 24th post with the following link to take you there: https://harrogateadvancedbikes.co.uk/hab-christmas-lunch-ride-in-wed-4th-december/ CONTACT DAVID ON 07779 214 331 WITH YOUR MENU CHOICES.

Monday 9th December HAB Meeting

Starts 7.30pm at Bilton Cricket Club. A follow up from Chief Observer Bob Hill’s November discussion on Rider Attitudes (your feedback invited) and a new discussion about Winter Riding. A sandwich and pie buffet and probably some festive treats to follow. This is the last meeting of the year of course. It would be fantastic to get a good turnout so hopefully see you there. Anyone who wants a lift on the night from Knaresborough or east Harrogate I’m happy to collect you and take you home and then you can have a pint or two! Phone Barry on 07 847 768 608.

Sunday 15th December Ride-Out

Details to follow about a week beforehand. Weather permitting of course.

Hopefully the 2025 Ride-Out calendars will be on the website soon so if you are up for leading a ride (March Sunday and June Wednesday already spoken for) please get in touch to arrange.

Suitably refreshed we head east & south for the Bainton Stop Cafe, Main St, Bainton, Driffield YO25 9BJ where we’ll take lunch. After lunch we’re west via Kirkham & Aldwark to return to Morrison’s Boroughbridge to finish.

We have an interesting mix of main, “B” & minor roads, on a low level route of 120 miles, having regard to the time of year, and early dark.

We are well into Autumn now and our monthly Harrogate Advanced Bikes Monday November 11th evening social meeting at Bilton Cricket Club starts at 7.30pm. Any news or other business followed by Chief Observer Bob Hill, who will lead an interactive discussion on rider attitudes entitled “Human Factors and Oblivion”. With member participation encouraged and starting off with our own attitudes to riding. Topped off with pies and sandwiches to follow.

On Wednesday 4th December David Haywood has organised a Ride-In and Christmas Lunch Party and informs us there are two spaces left for anyone who can make it. Please take a look at the October 23rd post on the new style HAB website, choose from the menu and get in touch with David on 07 779 214 331.

A Sunday Ride-Out is planned for November 17th details to follow soon.

It’s our penultimate HAB meeting of 2024 so hopefully as many as possible can be there on Monday evening.

HAB Mid-Week Ride-Out Wednesday Nov 6th

Meet at the town centre car park in Ilkley at 9.15 for a 9.30am start and return to Ripley Ice Cream at 4pm.

Hello everyone,

Just a quick note about the upcoming social ride on 6th November. We’ll be covering approximately 125 miles, starting from the town centre car park in Ilkley (LS29 9LA). Our route will take us through East Morton and Gargrave, with a stop for a brew at one of the cafés in Settle Market Place (BD24 9EJ). After that, we’ll head through Ingleton towards Garsdale Head, stopping for lunch at Bolton Castle (DL8 4ET). The final stretch of the ride will take us through Jervaulx, heading south through Healey and Pateley Bridge, and wrapping up at Ripley Ice Cream around 4pm.

If you intend to upload using Garmin Drive select .gpx 1.1 (route, track, POI).

PLEASE NOTE: If you intend to join this social ride out and it will be your first HAB ride out, please e-mail beforehand (ds55dcs@outlook.com).

IMPORTANT: This route covers some of the higher peaks in the Dales so it may have to be revised at short notice, and if the weather is particularly unkind it may have to be cancelled. Should this be the case any changes or cancellation will be entered on the HAB Facebook page before 8am on the morning of the ride so be sure to check before you leave home.

Looking forward to seeing you all there in Ilkley for a great day out!

Derek Saunders.

HAB Ride-Out Sun 27th October

The Ride-Out on Sunday 27th October is a gentle romp around various grades of road up to and around Hawes. Starting at the Dragon Road Lorry Park next to ASDA in Harrogate (HG5 1DE).

Meet at 9.30am for 9.45ish departure (clocks go back this weekend). Get there in time to fuel up at ASDA.

There is no Sat Nav route for this ride but there are three places you may wish to plot. The Town End Farm Shop in Airton (BD23 4BE) for a morning coffee stop.  Hawes for lunch and fuel (DL83RD). Ripley to finish the ride and for an ice cream (HG3 3AX).

The route between all is interesting and in some places there are the open and bendy bits you all enjoy. There are even some narrow twisty bits for those who like that sort of thing. The route is not too long at around 120 miles so no need to rush lunch at Hawes. (Fuel is available there at 70 miles).

The weather is looking sunny this weekend so I hope you are able to join Andrew Pratt and me on the day, with chips, ice cream, winding roads and sunshine what more do you need?

Bob Hill.

HAB Christmas Lunch Ride-In Wed 4th December

Dear All

I’ve reserved a table for twelve for Christmas Lunch at the Bay Horse, Great Broughton on 4th December. If you would like to be included, please send me details of your menu choices from the menu below, together with the deposit per head of £10 (needed for me to secure the booking).

Fingers crossed the weather will be kind this year. After running a ‘Ride-In’ every year up to 2021 the risk of ice/snow the last two years forced us to use common sense and take to four wheels. Obviously the weather is beyond our control but I’m hoping we can include a short ride to the Bay Horse again this year.

I’m pleased also to say also that I’ve been able to get an early booking – 12 noon – so, if we are able to ride, we should be home before dark.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks

David Haywood. 07 779 214 331

Sunday 20th Ride-Out Cancellation

Lovely weather today, but I’m sure many of you have seen the poor weather forecast for this Sunday so of the cancelation the Ride-Out won’t be too much of a surprise. “Gusty winds and heavy rain” according to all forecasters.

The plan is to run the Ride-Out next Sunday 27th October (weather permitting) and a post will go out confirming that during next week.

Fingers crossed for next weekend.

Bob

Change of Starting Point to-Dragon Road Lorry Park for our HAB Sunday 20th October Ride-Out.

Hi All,

Looking again at the roadworks near our planned start point on the roundabout next to The Curious Cow of Harrogate they don’t appear to anywhere near ready to finish for the weekend. So instead, let’s start the Ride-Out at the Dragon Road lorry park next to Asda (HG1 5PD) where you can fill your tanks anyway.

The original post is amended on the HAB website.

Same meeting time 9.30am with a 9.45am start.

Ride Leader-Bob Hill.

TEC- Andrew Pratt.

See you at Dragon Road.

Bob

HAB October 14th Monthly Monday Meeting at Bilton Cricket Club with a presentation from National Highways. 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.

This coming Monday evening Duty Manager Scott Wilson and his colleague David Grace from National Highways Traffic Officer Service are giving us a small presentation about the work they do to keep the roads running, safe for us to use and making sure our region’s roads are fit for the future. You can see more before the meeting by using these two links as I’m sure you will have a few questions for our guests.

Of course our sandwich buffet to follow.
