Monday 9th Bilton Meeting Speaker

Our speaker this coming Monday is one fo our members Colin Fairburn.

A presentation and Q&A on a personal and most challenging journey.

As a few of you may know,  I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2023 and have been, and still are undergoing treatment.

It has become apparent to me during my journey that many men rarely discuss this issue and even fewer really understand the subject. The stark truth is that 1:8 men will get prostate cancer.

Whether you’ve been tested and thankfully received a negative result, prefer not to think about it,  or have often heard conflicting stories, I think everyone no matter how old, would benefit greatly from hearing my positive story – not only for your own sake but for all your male relatives and friends irrespective of age.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on June 9th.

Colin

Harrogate Advanced Bikes Secretary Recruitment

Dear Members,

As you are already aware, three new committee members were elected at the recent AGM and Pete McNulty has stood down as Secretary, after several years of serving the group so ably and admirably.

Unfortunately, this position has not yet been filled, but Paul Dresser has very kindly offered to be a caretaker secretary until we can recruit someone on a more permanent basis. This gives him two areas of responsibility, Treasurer and Secretary, which is not an ideal situation and isn’t compliant with IAM guidelines. Therefore the committee is asking for a member who is willing to serve the Group in this post to come forward to take on this role.

The Secretary role involves administrative tasks, including managing membership records, organising meetings, and ensuring smooth group operations. This isn’t overly onerous and is sporadic as and when needed. Plenty of help to get started and ongoing assistance will be available. If you feel that you would be willing please feel free to come and discuss it before making a final decision. In the first instance please contact: secretary@harrogateadvancedbikes.co.uk

Best regards

Richard Stembrowicz

Chairman

Retraction of post

Morning Members

A post went out yesterday and whilst meant to be a humorous take on a recent trip it did not portray the image and standards of Harrogate Advanced Bikes to the audience our website wishes to attract to the group and is not the type of communications we wish to publish on the website for the general public to see.

For this reason the post has been removed and we would ask members to delete/disregard the email.

Thanks

Paul Dresser
Secretary/Treasurer

HAB Slow Riding Workshop Saturday 31st May

Our Spring Slow Riding Workshop and Training Day is at at Tim’s Cafe, Thorpe Arch Trading Estate, Avenue D, Street 5, Nr. Wetherby, LS23 7FE on Saturday 31st May Starting at 9.30am and finishing around 12.00 noon. https://www.facebook.com/TimsCafeThorpArch

Slow Riding is a skill that all motorcyclists need to have and maintain to be an Advanced Rider. Can you still do a u-turn within the constraints of a typical road and can you do a figure of eight in the same area? Is slow riding your weak point? Learning them for the first time or forgotten the core skills required to make slow manoeuvring a simple action? If the answer to the last question is yes HAB members full and associate need to come along to our Slow Riding Workshop on Saturday 31st May. The workshop starts at 9.30am and finishes around Noon. Facilities will be set up to practise slow riding and Harrogate Advanced Bike Observers will be there on the day to assist and advise where necessary.

There is, as the venue’s name suggests, food available at Tim’s Cafe on the site-open from 8.30am until 2.30pm . Not been to a HAB event for a while? It’s your club, use it or loose it they say, so be there if you can and even bring an interested mate.
