Dear Members,
The Committee recently sought anecdotal opinion from members as to whether they would prefer for the monthly Monday-evening indoor meetings to continue throughout the summer months in preference to evening Ride-Outs. This was due to the very small number of participants recently attending Monday evening Ride-Outs.
In the absence of any conclusive preference either way, the Committee has decided to run a Programme for Summer meetings with a published indoor meeting on those occasions when a Speaker can be arranged, and to further continue with a Ride-Out on other occasions.
To this end, the following Speakers have been arranged:-
April 10th – Steven Hoult will be talking about his ‘Biking Experiences and the Masters.’
July 17th – Sarah Sillars is the CEO of IAM RoadSmart, and she’s coming to talk to the club about ‘Bringing meaningful change to the organisation’. It should be noted that this is a change from the normal date, however it has been indicated in the published programme.
Dear Members,
Please find attached, Notice of the Harrogate Advanced Bikes AGM.
The Treasurer has suggested that members would be interested to learn what our donation will go towards:-
Ride Out, Wednesday 8th February
A fabulous mid-week ride out on Wednesday, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all who participated.
There were just 5 riders, which meant that for much of the time we could make good progress and only needed to deploy the ‘drop-off’ system periodically.
The weather forecast was spot-on, cold and dry with some sunshine. The snow on the top of Ingleborough with the sun on the side of the mountain was quite spectacular. The grip heaters were on full heat setting though, and we were all well ‘layered-up’.
The route out from the 59 Café took us south then west through Farnhill, Thornton in Craven, Bolton by Bowland and on to Slaidburn for a coffee stop at the Riverbank Tearoom.
From Slaidburn, heading north to High Bentham then towards Ingleton and on to Hawes for lunch at the Wensleydale Pantry.
The route was varied, interesting and quite new to me in some parts, and I was very ready for my lunch in Hawes.
After lunch we headed back towards Leyburn, turning right after Aysgarth, on down through Wharfedale and back past Bolton Abbey.
Thank you David Haywood for a well organised ride out, altogether a great day with splendid company.
Just to confirm, I was advised that the speaker for the 2nd part of the ‘Round the World Tour’ had departed on another expedition and consequently our arrangements for the evening had to be changed.

Harrogate Advanced Bikes observers will meet at Bilton Cricket Club at 9:15 am on Saturday 4th February. This will be an important occasion to establish the training programme for 2017 and to assign associates to observers for observed runs and cross checks.
The new IAM training materials will be used for all associates from now on and it is very important that all observers understand the implications for the way that riders are helped to achieve their goal of Skills for Life.
The meeting will be led by Bob Hill, assisted by Doug Masterton who ask observers to make every effort to attend.
Two dates have also been set for the theory sessions which back up the practical programme. Saturday 4th of March and Saturday 11th March. Both will be held at Bilton Cricket Club starting at 9:30 am. These are essential meetings for all associates who have asked to undertake their Skills for Life Programme with Harrogate Advanced Bikes. Observers are asked to attend at least one of these events (the first if possible) to estanblish early contact with their associates for the coming year.
