HAB Monday July 11th Meeting & Evening Ride-In

It’s the second Monday of the month and time for our HAB meeting at Bilton Cricket Club with a Ride-in starting at the Route 59 Cafe on the Skipton Road near Bolton Bridge BD23 6AF.

The meeting time for the ride is 6.00pm for a 6.15pm set off. The cafe is closed at that time of the evening so sadly the facilities won’t be available. The ride is just 25 miles of interesting hills, curves and views and will get us to the cricket club for approximately 7.15pm. GPX route file available. Text to 07847 78 66 08.

No speaker this month so come along for the evening ride if you can or turn up as usual from 7.00pm at the cricket club. Subject to the tech working we will show a 10 minute video on group riding from MCN/Bikertek with a short discussion afterwards. All the episodes are available to watch at:

https://www.bikertekshop.co.uk/video-series

https://www.bikertekshop.co.uk/video-series

Monday’s meet is all about the social side of our club and if you have not attended one recently come along and have a chat with your club mates. A lot of us have managed a biking trip or are planning one this summer so there is plenty to talk about and of course we will finish off with the cricket club’s excellent buffet!

See you there.

Monday 13th June HAB Ride-In and Bilton Cricket Club Meeting

John Honey will lead Monday evening’s Ride-In to our monthly HAB meeting at the Bilton Cricket Club.

Gather for the ride opposite the Boars Head in Ripley, 6.00pm for a 6.15pm set off. Taking in Pateley Bridge, Darley, towards Farnley back towards Harrogate through Leathley and Beckwithshaw. Just 28 miles and 40 minutes or so will get us to the Cricket Club in plenty of time for a good chat before the meeting begins. Usual rules, drop off marshalling system. Ride at your own pace, no rush to keep up, do observe the rules of the road, be safe and enjoy the ride.

The meeting will be as usual at Bilton Cricket Club from 7.00pm for our monthly Harrogate Advanced Bikes get together. The meeting starts with an in-house collective chat with Martin Pettitt about “Overtaking Made Easier”.

A discussion drawing on our collective experience of overtakes and about all aspects of overtaking, especially the 2-way relationship between taking and using the information, positioning to enable sweeter passes which we all enjoy and with Martin’s top tips thrown in.

The usual Bilton Cricket Club’s splendid buffet to follow.

See you there.

Wednesday June 1st HAB Ride Out

May 15th HAB Sunday Ride Out Saddleworth Moor

Meeting at Dragon Road Lorry Park Harrogate 9.00am for 9.30 depart.

This Sunday we are heading out on an old favourite of mine. West on the A59 to Bolton Bridge, Addingham, through Silsden, Steeton on the back road to Goose Eye, Oakworth and Haworth and to Hebden Bridge for our morning break (HX7 8ET).  Plenty of street parking free for motorcycles, near the market square.  Also plenty of cafes available in the Square or in the nearby streets. It’s usually busy so get in where you can.

All you can eat

After our break, heading for Mytholmroyd and south towards several high open moors with spectacular views and curvy roads, sadly muted with speed limits in places, but fun nevertheless.  Next stop is Slaithwaite (Sla-wit) at the bottom of a steep hill where we can lunch at The Handmade Bakery (HD7 5HA) a cafe on the canal side with plenty of healthy options.

Plenty more to come after lunch so through Marsden and Dobcross before heading across Saddleworth Moor towards Holmfirth but cutting back to Holmbridge & Holme (Moss) and then on to the A628 eastwards. Left turn northwards to the east side of Holmfirth and A635, a stop for fuel before we reach Denby Dale, then northwards for an official ride finish at The Yorkshire Sculpture Park (WF4 4LG). We can stop for a drink or an ice cream or just scoot off home on the M1 or even a backroad journey instead & I’m happy to lead that too.

Mileage approx. 120 when we arrive at the YSP around 3.00pm.

Bridge over Baitings Reservoir

I hope you enjoy the ride.
