Not the Christmas Dinner – Update

Ladies and Gentlemen

We are now up to 26 attendees for our get together and probably close to our comfortable maximum number.

Could I gently nudge anyone who hasn’t yet sent me their £10pp deposit to do so, so that we can confirm final numbers to the restaurant as soon as possible.

December Meeting and Christmas Quiz

Dear Members.

Our December meeting is on the 19th of December (normal time and place) this year instead of this Monday the 12th, which would have been our normal 2nd Monday.

Doug Masterton and I will be hosting a Christmas biking quiz with some prizes. We will be looking to make this a team event with 3-5 teams of 4 members each depending on numbers. We have asked Bilton to add some Christmas treats to the Buffet.

Looking forward to the new year we have secured speakers taking us up to Spring and as follows.

Monday 9th Jan – John Gregory – Local IAM car and bike enthusiast

Monday 13th Feb – Alan Beadle – History of speedway racing in Yorkshire

Monday 13th March – Tony, Michelin Tyres, Current products, and tyre technology.

Monday 10th April MAG – Colin Brown, Current activities of Motorcycle Action Group and future of motorcycling in UK

Look forward to seeing you on the 19th.

Paul Dresser
Chairman

2023 Subs

Dear Members,

As well as Christmas being on the near horizon, it becomes time to pay your subscriptions on the 1st January! If you were an associate in 2022 who has passed their test, your subs become due on 1st January 2023. If you remain an associate into 2023, lucky you, your subs won’t be due until the year following the one in which you pass your test!

For accounting purposes, it would be easier for your Treasurer and Auditor if all members make their payments in January rather than this month. It saves a tiresome calculation for adjustments between the accounting years.

The subs remain at £15 and the easiest way to pay is by BACS. Our account is at Lloyd’s Bank, Harrogate, is named Harrogate Advanced Bikes, the sort code is 30-93-91 and the account number is 01807888.

It is also my duty to tell you that members are required to remain in the IAM, so that your subs to them will need to be paid as they become due.

It only remains for me to wish you all a very happy Christmas and safe riding.

Best wishes,

Richard Stembrowicz

Treasurer

HAB Thursday 8th Dec Ride & Xmas Lunch Update

For those coming on the December ride on Thursday 8th to The Bay Horse at Great Broughton here are the ride details.

Meet at Asda lorry park, Dragon Road, Harrogate HG1 5DB at 9.45am for 10.00am departure.

Setting off eastward on the A59, then north over the Aldwark bridge through several villages heading for the Thirsk Garden Centre and Coffee Shop (YO7 3AB) for a morning break stop.

From Thirsk we continue north to South Otterington, Yafforth, North Colton and east towards Stokesley. Turning south on the B1257 head down to Great Broughton and arrive at The Bay Horse (TS9 7HA) for Christmas lunch. We are expecting to arrive early enough to have a drink, chat and hopefully a warm up before sitting down for lunch at 1.30.
Given the time of year and late start to lunch we will most likely choose the swiftest route home via the A172, A19, A168 and finish at Morrisons, Boroughbridge (YO51 9UR).

Ride Leader-John Blanchfield TEC-David Haywood
Total mileage 112.

See you at the lorry park!

John

Ride at your own speed.

Not the Christmas Dinner – Update

Ladies & Gentlemen

Thanks again for the positive response to my last note and I’m pleased to say that the NtCD is now all systems go.

We have a reservation for 20 members spread across 4 tables of 4 and 6 so that we can all sit close to each other and natter but still be able to “stretch our legs” as the need arises.

This is a small family restaurant and to keep matters simple, we’ve asked chef Ronnie to provide each table with a selection of Papa’s best starters and main courses. It’ll be like a family dinner with plenty of sharing and mixing and I’m confident that we’ll all leave feeling well fed and very happy. Please let me know if you have any special dietary needs or preferences – although the “standard” menu comprises, meat, fish, cheese, and vegetables.

I’ve not included a desert – my experience is that no-one will have room for one! Similarly, drinks will be served at the table but I’d ask that you order and settle for these individually please. Prices are reasonable for this post-Covid world however.

Final details:

  • Papa’s Mediteranean Restaurant, 11A Princes Square, Harrogate, HG1 1ND (it’s down the steps in the basement)
  • Saturday, 18 February, 2023
  • 7:15 for 7:30pm
  • Price per person is £27.50 – including gratuity.

Could I ask attendees to let me have a £10 per person deposit as soon as possible please and I’ll ask for the balance in late January so that I can settle the food element with the restaurant before we arrive.

Many thanks for your support and we’re both looking forward to seeing everyone there in February.

Not the Christmas Dinner – Update

Ladies and Gentlemen.

Many thanks for your prompt response to last weeks email and I’m pleased to say the replies so far have been very positive.

Thus enthused, Karen and I have a meeting with the preferred venue management on Friday evening to progress arrangements and agree menu, seating and pricing details. As soon as this is confirmed, I’ll come back to you with our firm plans for your approval.

We’re really looking forward to making this a cracking night and I do hope to see you there.

It would be really good to understand the likely final number of participants and, if you haven’t yet responded and would like to attend, could I ask that you do so as soon as possible?

As a reminder, the key details are as follows:

  • Date:               Saturday February 18, 2023
  • Time:               7:00 for 07:30pm
  • Menu:             TBA
  • Venue:            TBA – but probably the Wildcard Greek restaurant in Harrogate.

Your indication by email to peter@plus-point.co.uk  with a subject of: NTCD would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks, Peter & Karen Smith

Not the Christmas Dinner (NTCD)

Ladies and Gentlemen.

As we approach the end of the year, it has become traditional for the club to arrange a dinner for members and their partners to get together over some good food, some good wine and copious good cheer.

Since inception, this event has been masterminded by Mike Fourie but for 2023, Karen & I have agreed to take over the baton (and the pressure!) from Mike with our very grateful thanks to him.

We are currently short-listing venues, menus and budgets and have a number of options under consideration. Our plans are to keep costings for a three-course meal with coffee at significantly under £35pp.  2 course options will be available for under £27pp. Our focus will be to deliver a great evening at the very best price so we plan to be creative with menu choices and selection to cater for all needs. More detail to follow once likely numbers are known.

The plan so far is as follows:

  • Date:               Saturday February 18, 2023
  • Time:               7:00 for 07:30pm
  • Menu:             Traditional/2 or 3 courses with coffee
  • Venue:            TBA – but large pub in Harrogate area

However, and as a Wildcard, we think we could break with tradition and “take-over” a small, family run Greek restaurant in Harrogate centre and provide an outstanding “Chefs Choice” menu for a group of up to 30 at a very reasonable price and with exceptional and authentic Greek food.

Could I therefore ask members to let me know initially:

  1. If you would be interested in attending, subject to the final details (Yes/No).
  2. How many places would you like?
  3. Would you be interested in the Wildcard option of the Greek restaurant (Yes/No).

Your early indication by email to peter@plus-point.co.uk  with a subject of: NTCD would be very much appreciated and enable us to get the details broadly settled before the end of November.

Many thanks, Peter & Karen Smith

HAB Weekday Ride Out & Annual Christmas Lunch Thursday 8th Dec.

A table has been reserved at The Bay Horse in Great Broughton for this year’s Christmas Lunch on Thursday December 8th.

Subject to weather on the day, John Blanchfield will lead a ride to and back from the restaurant, details to be confirmed later. Feel free, of course, to make your own way to the restaurant should you prefer. Either way we should aim to arrive at the Bay Horse no later than 1pm. This will allow us to relax in the bar, have a natter and be seated in good time for lunch.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to join us. Knowing the total covers required along with your menu choices will allow me to secure the booking (menu details below). Please text 07 779 214 331.

A deposit of £10 per person is required – please pay this into my account below so I can consolidate everything and pay the total to the Bay Horse on your behalf. Please don’t pay the restaurant direct as this will only confuse things.

£10 deposit please to secure your place, payable to: David Haywood

Sort Code: 09-01-28 Acc. No: 73133325

I hope you can join us!

David
