Happy New year.
Our first indoor meeting of 2019 is this Monday 14th Jan at Bilton Cricket club.
Unfortunately, our planned speaker cannot join us however we are going to re-book them for March.
Next month (11th Feb) we have Hadrian Tour joining us for a talk on touring the Himalayas which I hope will be very interesting.
Please join us for a social evening on Monday.
Well, the first ride out this year was on Wednesday and although I couldn’t make it, judging by the positive messages on our Facebook page, it went very well.
Thanks to David Haywood for another cracker.
This January’s Sunday ride out is on the 20th and Chris Armstrong has offered to lead it, ably assisted by Mike Holroyde.
Meet at the Harrogate lorry park near Asda from 09.00 for a prompt 09.30 start. We head to How Stean Gorge Cafe for morning coffee (HG3 5SY) via Ripley and Summerbridge and then over the top passing Leighton reservoir to Masham. After Masham we ride to Askrigg via East Witton and Leyburn for lunch at the Crown Inn (DL8 3HQ).
Following lunch we head towards Aysgarth and over to Buckden and Kettlewell finishing at Stump Cross Caverns (HG3 5JL).
Distance to lunch is 56m plus 30m to Stump Cross caverns, total 86m. In the event of a severe weather forecast members will be advised on Friday 18th January that the ride is cancelled. We have had excellent weather so far this winter so let’s hope it will be kind to us once again.
Nice low mileage winter ride from Chris with plenty of time left to wash the bike when you get home!
See you there.
Barry

As I write this on Friday evening, the weather forecast looks good for the time of year with some sunshine and little chance of rain; cold but temperatures well above freezing.
In keeping with Wednesday ride out tradition expect your pride and joy to be absolutely filthy by the time you arrive home!
Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday.
David
Chairman’s New Year Message
I hope you’ve all had a good Christmas and are looking forward to a great biking year for 2019.
20189 saw a good number of Associates gain ‘Skills for Life ‘ passes and our Observers continue to work with the current Associates still in training and new ones as they come along. Any Member interested in becoming an Observer should please contact our Chief Observer Bob Hill for further information.
The effects of global warming seem evermore concerning but the reduced severity of our winters is proving to be a boon to our riding programme. At the request of members we are now trialling year round monthly Sunday rides to complement the monthly midweek rides. This should hopefully give Members more opportunity to get out throughout the year and maintain contact with friends in the Group. This increase in rideouts will inevitably put more pressure on ride leaders to come up with and commit to rides so once again I would ask Members to consider putting themselves up for this. Help with organising and planning would be given by experienced leaders.
If you are aware of a suitable destination or coffee stop (bike orientated or not) please let us know to help keeping the rides fresh.
We have also recognised that the reduction in early pre-planning and publication of ride details has led to some Members missing out on events they would have liked to attend. For 2019 therefore we intend to try harder with this by looking earlier at dates of suitable events throughout the year and announcing them sooner. Maybe a few 2 days/1 night away or visits to motorsport events etc. Any Member with any ideas on this should please contact our Rideout Co-ordinator Barry Ring asap.
We have speakers arranged for our next 2 monthly Monday evening meetings at Bilton Cricket Club so please try to come along and support them. Watch the website for details.
The Club subscriptions have been held yet again at the lowly sum of £15 so please, if they have not been paid, get the money to our Treasurer Richard Stembrowick as soon as you can.
I look forward to meeting and riding with you all again soon and wish you a very Happy New Year and safe riding.
John Blanchfield

We are nearly there! 2019 fast approaches and group rides are being planned.
The Wednesday ride for January will be on the 9th, weather permitting, and we have been lucky with that so far this winter. Details of the ride route and the stop offs will follow nearer the date.
Happy Christmas to you all and looking forward to seeing as many of you on the ride as possible.
David Haywood.
