Sunday December 13th HAB Ride Out

It’s the last HAB Sunday ride out of the 2020 and a re-run of last weeks well received mid-week ride.

Starting at Ripley car park this time. Meeting from 9.oo AM with a 9.30 start or sooner if all present. Just six riders allowed as per the new normal and tier 2 areas only please.

Setting off from Ripley, skirting around Knaresborough, through Scotton and past Boroughbridge and on to our route to Helmsley and our morning break at Beadlam Grange Farm Shop (YO62 7TB). Bacon sandwich recommended, but leave room for lunch. Last week we had a table each but were able to converse easily in this novel way.

After our break, we are heading towards Whitby via Hutton-le-Hole, Rosedale Abbey & Chimney Bank, Egton Bridge and on to the A171 heading into Whitby. Our lunch stop is at the Victoria Farm Garden Centre, Guisborough Road, Whitby (YO21 1TL), just off the roundabout on the B1460. Hopefully you have left room for a hearty lunch! There should be plenty of room to space out and again last week we were able to communicate freely. The route home is undecided as yet, details will follow on the day, but the finishing point will be at Morrisons in Boroughbridge (petrol station closed at the moment) probably around 3.00 PM.

The route is approximately 125 miles so a full tank at the start should get us all home in time to wash the bike.

I will be leading the ride again and could do with a volunteer TEC. The usual rules apply I’m afraid, just six riders not from tier 3 areas. Please arrive at the meeting point with a full tank.

Text me on 07847 786608 to book at space.

Thanks

Barry

Weds 2nd Dec Mid Week Ride Out to Whitby

Last minute in deciding but we are doing the above ride on Wednesday starting from Morrisons on the Ripon A61 bypass meeting from 9.00 am with a 9.30 am set off or sooner if all are present.

A planned route across the North York Moors via Helmsley and Egton Bridge taking in a decent ford and The Rosedale Chimney on the way to Whitby as our lunchtime destination. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us, the BBC is currently forecasting “light cloud and a moderate breeze” for Whitby.

As the general lockdown ends on Tues/Weds at the stroke of midnight we can ride in a group of six on Wednesday socialising outside for tier 2 or tier 1 members only. Stops for refreshment are a little more complicated as we can’t mix indoors in a group of six.

So the first planned stop is in Helmsley where there are plenty of takeaways open when I last visited a couple of weeks ago. I took a snack and a flask. No doubt some cafes may be open for us if we are willing to split up.

Bring your own picnic lunch or plan for fish and chips. I stopped in the centre of Whitby, parked at the Whistlestop cafe (closed this Weds) and purchased some fish & chips at The Fish Box over the road with their own seating outside.

The route back is more or less the same way, all the right roads-not necessarily in the right order-stopping at Helmsley for fuel if necessary and taking the quick way back via Sutton Bank A170-A168 finishing at Morrisons in Boroughbridge (no fuel at the moment) around 3.00 pm.

All the usual rules-arrive with a full tank of fuel in time for the planned set off or arrange to meet us on the way. Sadly West Yorkshire HAB members in tier 3 cannot join us on Wednesday-sorry!

Subject to demand another mid-week ride can be arranged for Thursday 10th and there will be a Sunday 13th ride as well, details to follow.

Barry Ring is leading the ride with David Haywood as TEC. David is your contact to book a space on 07779 214331.

November Sunday Ride Cancellation

Sadly the November Sunday ride has to be cancelled to comply with the Government’s guidelines on leisure travel during the lockdown started today. The IAM have suspended car and motorcycling training, however the general advice is to stay at home whenever possible, to keep away from potential infection and the government say we can only meet with only one other person, not from your household, outdoors, so that’s where we are.

The good news is the December Midweek ride is scheduled for the 2nd December and Boris say’s the lockdown ends automatically on that day. Nevertheless, all these arrangements could be subject to change. Let’s hope that isn’t the case.

Looking to the future, we will do our best to arrange additional rides during December and into 2021. Any full HAB member interested in planning or leading a ride or any member with new ideas is welcome to get in touch.

If you are not already in our Facebook group have a look at our page, join and contribute if you want to. Share your memories, photographs and videos of biking adventures. I’m sure that will give us additional inspiration for the future.

All the best

Barry

Mid Week Ride Out Wednesday 4th November

A lovely ride to Whitby via Stokesley lead by Trevor Cooper with David Haywood as TEC on Wednesday 4th November. No promises, but the weather forecast is looking sunny all next week.

Meeting from 9.00 am at the BP petrol station in Pannal with time for a suitably distanced chat. Setting off at 9.30 am or sooner if all are present. The route and stops will be available from Trevor and you can contact him directly on 07525 130234 to book a space on his ride.

The ride at 140 miles so come with a full tank and avoid a top up, although a fuel stop can be arranged if necessary. We should be finishing at Morrisons in Boroughbridge at approximately 3.30 pm.

Covid-19: Please respect your current local distancing and protocol guidelines whilst socialising together.

Sunday Ride Out Re-Run 25th October

A re-run is planned of Paul Holmes’s Sunday (18th) Ride for Sunday 25th October. Anyone unable to book a space for Paul’s ride is welcome to book a space for this re-run on the 25th. Currently three spaces available.

Meet in Ripley at 9.00am to leave at 9.30am full tanks.

The first section of the ride takes you north wards to Kirkby Malzeard, Masham, Newton-le-Willows, Scotton and through Catterick Garrison and to our morning coffee stop at The Station Cafe, Richmond, DL10 4LD just before the Mercury Bridge passing over the River Swale on the edge of Richmond.

After coffee, we head further north to Gilling West before passing over the A66 and passing through Forcett, Caldwell and Winston heading towards Barnard Castle. From Barnard Castle we will head on the A67 towards Bowes and ride west on the A66. From the A66 we will pick up the signs for Barras which will take us up and on to the moors towards a well earned lunch stop at Tan Hill Inn, DL11 6ED (Britain’s highest public house at 1,732 feet (528m) above sea level).

After lunch we will head south east back towards Reeth and Leyburn where we can do a fuel stop if required. From Leyburn on a quick route we will head east on the A684 to Bedale. From Bedale we will head towards Leeming Bar and pick up the A6055 running parallel to the A1(M) going south to pick up the A61 which will bring us back towards Ripon and into Ripley for the finish (approximate finish 15:45). A Gpx file of the route is available on request.

The route is approximately 122 miles. Tank up before the start or at the designated fuel stop.

Another opportunity for a Sunday ride not to be missed as we head into Autumn.

Covid-19: Please respect the current distancing and protocol guidelines whilst socialising together.

To book please contact Barry as soon as you can on 07847 786608.
