Monday 14th August HAB Meeting & Ride-In.

Presentation by Kevin Wray-Track Day Enthusiast.

Our Monday August 14th Harrogate Advanced Bikes meeting at Bilton Cricket Club starting at 7.30pm features a presentation from HAB member Kevin Wray whose hobby is Track Days. Kevin began his track day interest after passing his IAM test to “improve his cornering” and judging by the photos above he has done it ever since. He will talk about his experiences and the high profile racing personalities he has met. A question and answer session at the end, so anything you wanted to know about the world of Track Day riding get your enquiries ready.

Ride-In Lead By Geoff Hale.

Geoff Hale is leading the Ride-In this month and it starts at The Route 59 Cafe on the A59, Skipton Road near Bolton Bridge. Meeting from 6.00pm for a 6.15pm prompt depart. Geoff’s route is a southerly circuit of Rombalds Moor, with views over the Aire Valley, Keighley and Bingley. Returning via Otley, Leathley and Beckwithshaw, reaching Bilton Cricket Club for approximately 7.15pm.

August 14th Evening Ride-In Leader Request

This is a plea for a HAB full member to step in and lead the Ride-In to our August 14th Club Meeting at Bilton Cricket Club.

I would have been very happy to lead the Ride-In but unfortunately I’ve broken my ankle playing football. Before you think what a hero, taking a fall for his local team, I can’t claim that. Encouraging my nine year old granddaughter in her footballing ambitions, having a kick about in the back garden I went over on my ankle and separated my fibula. I’m stuck at home and sure I won’t be bike fit on the 14th so I’m casting around for a volunteer please.

To be honest it’s an easy peasy task for an experienced ride leader and relatively straight forward for a newbie. An hour’s ride from a convenient starting point and getting to the meeting at Bilton Cricket Club for approximately 7.15pm. Happily we have splendid local roads available to play with. If you need a route to get started I have several GPX files available to share. Typically groups have been 5-8 so easily managed.

Please get in touch on 07847 78 66 08.

More information will follow about the meeting in about a week’s time.

All the best

Barry

Monday 10th July Ride-In & Evening Meeting

It’s HAB monthly meeting time come around again. Summer is marching on so hopefully you can make the Monday Ride-In to Bilton Cricket Club and if not, you won’t be left out as Chief Observer, Bob Hill is giving a presentation and advice on overtaking.

Meeting for the Ride-In at Otley Garden Centre, Pool Road, LS21 1DY, just after the football ground on the left riding into town. 6.00pm for a prompt 6.15pm set off after a pre-ride briefing. This one is “all the right roads, not necessarily in the right order” type of rides!

From the garden centre into Otley, with a right turn across the river on Bridge Street, heading out of Otley on Weston Lane towards Askwith, Denton, Middleton and right, up Hardings Lane, over Beamsley Hill towards Bolton Abbey. Up past the Abbey and a right turn for Barden and onto the B6265 towards Greenhow. A right turn after Stump Cross Caverns past Thruscross Reservoir to Blubberhouses. Left on to the A59 all the way to Harrogate and Bilton Cricket Club. Follow the leader so no need to store that information, but it gives you an idea of the route. I’ve not recced the route, but I am familiar with the roads. Please excuse any hesitation at junctions, so avoid bunching up. We will of course use the turn marking system, so no one should get lost (if you are new to HAB you can read Ride-Out guidelines on our website and of course IAM RoadSmart website too).

Only 40 Miles and about 80 minutes. Getting to BCC around 7.30pm. Yours truly leading the ride.

Buffet food of course is available as usual, after Bob’s talk.

Looking forward to seeing as many as can make the Ride-In, and the Meeting at the Cricket Club.

Barry.

Yorkshire Motorcycle Show

Information courtesy of David Haywood, in case you’re not doing the HAB Ride-Out tomorrow, this might suit you for a day out. Local event, not expensive, and all in aid of local charities too.

Aire Valley Classic Motorcycle Club, formerly Steeton-based Girder Fork, is once again staging its Big Bike Sunday.

A range of classic and modern machines will be on display at the event, at Skipton Auction Mart on June 25.

Last year’s show was a record breaker, raising £4,500 for charities including Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice Manorlands and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The event features two and three-wheeled vehicles, from 50cc mopeds to trikes powered by car engines.
