Not the Christmas Dinner – Update

Ladies and Gentlemen.

Many thanks for your prompt response to last weeks email and I’m pleased to say the replies so far have been very positive.

Thus enthused, Karen and I have a meeting with the preferred venue management on Friday evening to progress arrangements and agree menu, seating and pricing details. As soon as this is confirmed, I’ll come back to you with our firm plans for your approval.

We’re really looking forward to making this a cracking night and I do hope to see you there.

It would be really good to understand the likely final number of participants and, if you haven’t yet responded and would like to attend, could I ask that you do so as soon as possible?

As a reminder, the key details are as follows:

  • Date:               Saturday February 18, 2023
  • Time:               7:00 for 07:30pm
  • Menu:             TBA
  • Venue:            TBA – but probably the Wildcard Greek restaurant in Harrogate.

Your indication by email to peter@plus-point.co.uk  with a subject of: NTCD would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks, Peter & Karen Smith

Not the Christmas Dinner (NTCD)

Ladies and Gentlemen.

As we approach the end of the year, it has become traditional for the club to arrange a dinner for members and their partners to get together over some good food, some good wine and copious good cheer.

Since inception, this event has been masterminded by Mike Fourie but for 2023, Karen & I have agreed to take over the baton (and the pressure!) from Mike with our very grateful thanks to him.

We are currently short-listing venues, menus and budgets and have a number of options under consideration. Our plans are to keep costings for a three-course meal with coffee at significantly under £35pp.  2 course options will be available for under £27pp. Our focus will be to deliver a great evening at the very best price so we plan to be creative with menu choices and selection to cater for all needs. More detail to follow once likely numbers are known.

The plan so far is as follows:

  • Date:               Saturday February 18, 2023
  • Time:               7:00 for 07:30pm
  • Menu:             Traditional/2 or 3 courses with coffee
  • Venue:            TBA – but large pub in Harrogate area

However, and as a Wildcard, we think we could break with tradition and “take-over” a small, family run Greek restaurant in Harrogate centre and provide an outstanding “Chefs Choice” menu for a group of up to 30 at a very reasonable price and with exceptional and authentic Greek food.

Could I therefore ask members to let me know initially:

  1. If you would be interested in attending, subject to the final details (Yes/No).
  2. How many places would you like?
  3. Would you be interested in the Wildcard option of the Greek restaurant (Yes/No).

Your early indication by email to peter@plus-point.co.uk  with a subject of: NTCD would be very much appreciated and enable us to get the details broadly settled before the end of November.

Many thanks, Peter & Karen Smith

HAB Weekday Ride Out & Annual Christmas Lunch Thursday 8th Dec.

A table has been reserved at The Bay Horse in Great Broughton for this year’s Christmas Lunch on Thursday December 8th.

Subject to weather on the day, John Blanchfield will lead a ride to and back from the restaurant, details to be confirmed later. Feel free, of course, to make your own way to the restaurant should you prefer. Either way we should aim to arrive at the Bay Horse no later than 1pm. This will allow us to relax in the bar, have a natter and be seated in good time for lunch.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to join us. Knowing the total covers required along with your menu choices will allow me to secure the booking (menu details below). Please text 07 779 214 331.

A deposit of £10 per person is required – please pay this into my account below so I can consolidate everything and pay the total to the Bay Horse on your behalf. Please don’t pay the restaurant direct as this will only confuse things.

£10 deposit please to secure your place, payable to: David Haywood

Sort Code: 09-01-28 Acc. No: 73133325

I hope you can join us!

Indoor Meetings At Bilton

Dear Members.

For a long time now we have enjoyed the hospitality of Bilton Cricket club at a very reasonable cost to the group with a magnificent Buffet thrown in. While these costs have remained low the group has been able to finance these in full from annual subs and income from the IAM.

I’m sure you can appreciate that costs are going up everywhere, Bilton is not immune to this and are increasing the costs for both room hire and the Buffet.

As a result, we can no longer 100% fund this from group funds so reluctantly we are proposing a £2 contribution from members towards the Monday evening meetings which will also include the food. We still feel this is excellent value and as a group we would find it difficult to find a suitable meeting place that offers food and a room within this cost.

Also, many of the speakers in the past have given their time freely and without expenses, however, most are now wanting some expenses for fuel, etc.

I hope you find this acceptable but I’m happy to discuss it with anyone who has concerns.

Kind Regards

Paul Dresser

Chairman.
