September 13th Indoor meeting, 7pm

Dear Members.

We are quickly approaching our first indoor meeting for what seems like an eternity.

We have an interesting speaker for the evening Graham Feest of Road Safety Consultancy, I have included below an introduction from Graham on the topics of the evening.

Despite the lockdown we have had great succssess with our associates through the endevours of our Observing team. It would be great to see some of the newly passed members at the meeting so we can hand out their certificates and celebrate their achievements. I will be reaching out to them individually to invite them to the meeting.

As usual, a fantastic spread from Bilton Cricket club will be served.

Travel Traffic Safety and Roads

This is intended to be an interactive, emotive and lively session in which after a short introduction we will take a look at some topical issues as spontaneously, anonymously and randomly selected and how they affect the national and local travel, traffic safety and roads agenda. It will take us down a path of  looking at some of the current Government and local interventions and ideas along with the legal, engineering, public opinion  and human factor implications under consideration or being implemented all aimed and with the intention of reducing crashes, collisions and injuries on the road;

Would be good to see many of you there.

Kind Regards.

Tuesday 10th August Evening Ride Out

First of all apologies to anyone expecting our usual Monday evening ride out. For family reasons it has to be Tuesday this week. However, that’s good, as it fits in with “bike night” at The Greyhound in the village of Bagby near Thirsk YO7 2PF.

Meeting at the normal place, Dragon Road lorry park next to ASDA in Harrogate, fuel and toilets available. Gather from 6.30pm for a 7.00pm set off. Final route not decided yet, but less than an hour and about 30 miles. That should get us to the Greyhound in time for food and a chat and then follow on a simple route back to the Harrogate area or make your own way home. The weather forecast is looking good so make the most of the light evenings whilst we can.

I hope you can make it. Please get in touch on 07847 786608 to give me an idea on numbers, but it’s not compulsory, so you can just turn up on the night.

HAB Evening Ride Wednesday July 21st Squires Cafe Bike Night

Hi Folks

Check your tyres again we are off for an evening ride to Squires Cafe Bike Night at Newthorpe near Sherburn in Elmet LS25 5LX. Wednesday is Bike Night apparently, even though I believed every night was bike night at Squires.

Meeting at Harrogate lorry park on Dragon Road next to ASDA. 7.00pm or earlier with a prompt set of at 7.15pm. I’m doing the honours again and looking for a likely TEC to step up! A nice hour’s run to the cafe on interesting roads you may not have used before, taking in Pannal, Follifoot, Kirkby Overblow, Sicklinghall……….and lots more on the way to Newthorpe. Its’ forecast sunny and warm all this week and don’t worry, you can water the plants when you get home from your ride. The ride is approximately 26 miles long so fuel enough to do that and get home is all you need. We should get there by 8.15pm. There is usually lots of food at Squires so leave room for a pie and there will also be plenty of time for a chat outside.

Hopefully you can make it. Please let me know beforehand if you can. It’s’ not compulsory and shouldn’t stop you just rocking up, but a text on 07847 786608 is sufficient. Obviously be cautious and look after yourselves whilst socialising together and please don’t come on the ride if you have any Covid like symptoms.

A GPX file of the route is available to share if anyone would like a copy please let me know.

All the best

An evening jaunt to the Joiners Arms Wednesday 14th July

Roy Beniston has kindly offered to lead an additional evening ride to the Joiners Arms at Hampsthwaite this coming Wednesday 14th.

The ride to start at the Dragon Road Lorry Park, Harrogate, assembling at 6.30pm for a 6.45pm start. Fuel and toilets available at ASDA next door.

The ride duration will be 50 miles of country roads in and around the Harrogate area taking approx 2 hours. The riding will be a mixture of country lanes and quality ‘B’ roads with virtually no town riding. There are a few sections that will be a good test of your advanced riding skills but nothing that a competent advanced rider cannot deal with. Although mainly on national speed limit roads, this will be a steady ride at modest speeds and should be very enjoyable.

Finishing at the “Joiners Arms” pub at Hampswaite for drinks and bar snacks.
There is ample parking at the Joiners Arms, with outside seating for those that wish to enjoy the evening air!!!

The official ride ends at the Joiners so riders are free to make their own way home.
Unlikely with the current forecast for Wednesday but the ride will run subject to weather conditions, but unless these prove to be very inclement it will go ahead.

No need to book a space but I would like a volunteer TEC for the ride please.

Regards

Roy.
