Sunday Rides 16th & 30th May

The route is a counter-clockwise circular tour of approximately 153 miles, taking in some great biking roads and spectacular scenery-well it’s Yorkshire init!

Unfortunately we’re a day too early to enjoy possible easing of the current Covid restrictions so we are still limited to 6 people on the 16th but we should be clear to increase that number on the 30th.

The plan is to have a coffee stop in Easingwold and a lunch stop in Yarm.  Because of the limitations I’m not booking anywhere in particular but we should have no problem in finding cafes for takeaways.  Alternatively, feel free to bring your own food & drink.

IAM Roadsmart Motorcycle Skills Day Wednesday 30th June

There is a motorcycle Skills Day run by the IAM at Croft Circuit near Dalton-on-Tees just off the A1 taking place on Wednesday 30th June. I had a great time when I did this day in 2019 as did a few other members from HAB. I’m booked on it again and would encourage HAB members to give it a go. It’s not an all-out track day but allows riders, with the guidance of the IAM instructors, to explore the potential of their vehicle and to improve their riding. Before and between each track session there is bitesize instruction and a debrief to assist riders to improve their skills.

When I booked my place last week there were plenty of spaces available. The cost is £149 and after experiencing the day in 2019, despite the damp weather, I would say it was excellent value for money. I did take out additional track insurance for the day as my policy did not cover it. Please check your own policy. You may be covered (Cornmarket?), or you might be with an additional premium.

The day is not limited to HAB members so if you have a biking mate not currently an IAM member this may be an excellent way to get them involved.

Some details from the IAM I have copied below, including the telephone number to book. At the bottom of this page there is a web link to take you to the appropriate section on the IAM website. Please let me know if you are going. Barry 07847 786608

Welcome John Honey to the group.

Here is a little intro from John

I am 58, married and have lived in Kirk Deighton since 1998.

I got my first bike in 1980, passed my bike test in 1981 and rode for the next five years, including two as a despatch rider in Manchester.

I’ve had a lay off from riding since 1986 but bought myself a bike in January.

The move back onto two wheels has been less daunting than I had feared and I’ve managed to clock up 1,500 miles without falling off, but I am definitely rusty and never really received any instruction before my original test, so I think it’s time to get some proper training.

Here’s a picture of me on my bike. It’s a Husqvarna Vitpilen 401.

I hope I’ll get to join one of the ride outs in the near future.
