Sunday 21st July Ride Out to Sewerby.

For our July Sunday ride out our Treasurer Richard Stembrowicz is leading us on a trip through the County of East Riding.

Meeting at Ripley car park for a change, 9.00am for a chat and briefing, setting off at 9.30 with hopefully a full fuel tank. Richard has sorted a a super route with a mix of unclassified, A and B roads, including dual carriageway, skirting around York to lead us to Sewerby on the North Sands near Bridlington.

Stopping off for a morning break at the very popular with bikers Seaways Cafe near Fridaythorpe (YO25 9RX), recently receiving an excellent write-up in Motorcycle News.

After a bacon sandwich or a splendid slice of cake we take the B1251 to Sledmere, then B1253 all the way to Bridlington and finally to the award winning Ship Inn at Sewerby (YO15 1EW) for lunch. Plenty of parking available, lively atmosphere, live music from 2.00pm, excellent service, great food and lovely sea view from the garden.

After an optional hearty lunch Richard is keeping it simple with an A road route all the way back to Ripley for a, by now, traditional ice cream.

Mileage outwards: 77, return 69 with a fuel stop just after lunch.

The Ship Inn is a busy place and they have suggested we book a table. If you are going on this ride out please contact Richard or myself as soon as you can to give us an idea of numbers.

Please text Richard 07767384938 or Barry 07847786608 or email barry.ring@gmail.com

Monday July 8th Evening Ride Out

July’s Monday evening ride will be lead by our esteemed chairman John Blanchfield. Meeting as usual at the Asda lorry park in Harrogate, 7.00pm for a chat, leaving promptly at 7.30pm. We are heading to the Railway Inn, Cavendish Street, Skipton, the hostelery run by new associate Angus Crabtree, very fortunate for us! Traveling for plenty of interest via Greenhow, Appletreewick and Embsay with a return journey straight over Blubberhouses.

Once again the weather is looking good. Make the most of the one of these long summer evenings.

See you there.

Triumph Visitor Experience Sunday 30th June

Next weekend we are set for a visit to the Triumph factory at Hinckley in Leicestershire LE1o 3BZ.

Our Factory Tour for 1.30pm is fully booked, so if you haven’t already arranged a place, please do come along for the ride as the Visitor Experience is very interesting in it’s own right and you never know a cancellation for the Factory Tour may come up.

A recce has been done with a mixture of roads, initially motorway, but then cross country on tracks you may be unfamiliar with. We are very fortunate to have so many resources to call upon these days, even paper maps! Andrew Pratt shared a gpx route file which I have used for the first part of the journey, combined with another route file from Ride magazine tagged on for the latter section. The route takes us through the lovely Chatsworth Estate, plenty of picture postcard villages and great roads along our journey.

An early start is required so that we can fit in a morning stop. The meeting point is at Wetherby Services on the A1M (LS22 5GT) at 8.30am for 8.45am prompt set off with full tank (Fuel is cheaper at nearby Morrisons in Wetherby). At about 120 miles we probably won’t need a fuel stop on the way and there are plenty of opportunities to fill up near to Triumph.

The location for our morning/brunch stop is not decided as yet. When we arrive at Triumph the Visitor Cafe will be open and we may arrive with enough time to eat, but I suggest we look around the Visitor Experience beforehand. Our factory tour, however, starts at 1.30pm, participants are gathered 15 mins before so we will not get a chance to eat again until after 3.00pm. There are lockers on site so no need to carry your kit around.

After the tour we can go home by motorway or a reverse of the route, the choice is yours. Either way we can travel as a group or just go at your own speed.

I will be leading the ride and could do with a volunteer to do tail end charlie please.

Please read the information from Eventbrite/ Triumph and lastly, don’t forget your ticket for the Factory Tour.

Any questions please get in touch barrya.ring@gmail.com or 07847 786608

IAM Road Smart Skills Day Croft Circuit Tuesday 25th June

This post is really for HAB members already booked on the Skills Day at Croft Circuit near Darlington on Tuesday 25th but, according to the IAM website, there are still some places available so have a look if you fancy some extra training and are free next Tuesday to give it a go. Cost is £149 for the day.

It’s an early start for us on Tuesday and for the HAB members making their own way to the circuit, you need to be there ready settled in for the briefing at 8.45am with a fuelled up bike. Fuel stop at the Toll Bar Garage 2 miles south on the A167.

I will be leading anyone you wants to come along to the circuit to arrive 8.15-8.30am maybe in time for a quick breakfast. I suggest we meet at Morrisons supermarket Harrogate Road, Ripon where fuel is available also. Best to go the direct route as we will have plenty of interesting riding during the day. Journey time is minimum 40 minutes from there (31 miles) so I suggest we leave Ripon at 7.30am prompt.

I’m sure you will have all done so, but please read the available information in your email from the IAM paying particular attention to bike condition, brakes, tyres, fluids/ chain adjustment/noise levels etc. You also need suitable leathers or good textile bike clothing. Don’t forget to print and sign your disclaimer and although not requested I will be taking my driving licence with me.

For your information I have taken out specific track day insurance as my policy with Bennetts could not be extended. IAM Surety (if your current insurer) will extend your policy for a fee. My track day insurance has cost me £100 with Bemoto.co.uk or phone 01733 907000. That was the cheapest I could find.

Food and drink is available at Croft Circuit.

Have another read of the IAM info and please get in touch with if you have any particular questions.

The weather forecast is not sunny but low chance of rain so I’m greatly looking forward to the day on Tuesday 25th.

Please let me know if you are making your own way to the circuit or meeting at Morrisons.

Unfortunately one of the party of four has had to drop out for work reasons and a spare berth is going begging.

The weekend is a Fri-Mon one and you would have a choice to stay until Monday, although I’m back at work on Monday so traveling home on Sunday 9th.

June 16th Sunday Ride Out

Ride Leader Pete Mcnulty.

Meet at ASDA Lorry Park at 09:00 for a prompt departure at 09:30am.

We will head West out of Harrogate on the A59 turning right to head through Hampsthwaite and Darley before heading north to Greenhow Hill Top.

From there we head west on the B6265 to Grassington then turn North and up to Arncliffe.

From Arncliffe we turn South West and head through some breathtaking scenery until we reach Settle where we turn North once again and on to our first coffee stop in Stainforth.

After coffee we continue North tracking close to the Settle to Carlise railway line until we reach Ribblehead where we’ll turn South West to High Bentham.

From there we turn South and into the Forest of Bowland until we reach our lunch stop at the Lower Buck In at Waddington.

After lunch we head North East through Bolton by Bowland and on up to Wigglesworth where we turn East through Hellifield, Airton and Winterburn.

Eventually turning South once we reach Burnsall until we reach Billy Bob’s Ice Cream Parlour where the ride will officially end.

From there people can disperse and head home. It’s right next to the A59 so it’s a short 30 minute ride back home to Harrogate.

PLEASE NOTE: The ride out is on Father’s day so we will need to book a table at the Lower Buck Inn for lunch.

Looks like a cracking ride. Pete needs numbers for lunch so please can you let him know by Saturday 7th June if you intend to come on the ride out so that he can secure a table.
