Slow Riding Workshop 30 April – Reminder

We will be holding a slow riding workshop on Sunday 30 April at Knaresborough Technology Park, Manse Lane, Knaresborough, HG5 8LF. The workshop starts at 9.30am and will run through to 11.30am. This is a great opportunity for all Associates to gain experience of slow riding in a secure and protected environment. There are two good reasons to attend:

Associates will need to demonstrate this skill during your Advanced Test;
More experienced riders should attend to hone up their skill
It would be appreciated if Observers could attend to assist in the training.

There will be the normal layout of obstacles and turns as well as some additional theory training, which may help you to master this essential skill. If time permits and there is sufficient demand we can lay out a slow manoeuvring competition at the end of the formal training.

Look forward to seeing you all there. Bob Hill Chief Observer

Club meeting – Monday 8th May 2017

I regret to report that we have not been able to secure a speaker for our May meeting.

Instead we will meet at Bilton Cricket Club as usual for 7:30 pm and go on a short ride-out either to Squires Cafe at Sherburn or to the Wetherby Whaler chip shop in Guiseley. A vote will be taken.

This means that you will have to come along on two wheels and take advnatage of the lighter evenings. I look forward to seeing as many members as possible who can make it.

Motorcycle Control and Steering

full-control

Evening all

The IAM have produced the enclosed article for the IAM Skills day. It is about as close as can be to the reality of riding a motorcycle as any article I have read and many of you who have attended the Theory Sessions put together by Doug Masterton, will find it familiar. I thoroughly recommend you all read it whatever your level of experience. In particular, look at the last section listing common panic reactions and, take note!!. I am sure most of you will recognise these reactions.

If anyone wishes to discuss or talk about this then please contact Bob or any observer.

March’s midweek Ride Wednesday 8th March

From Ripley car park we rode north through Ripon and took back roads to the cafe at Thorp Perrow Arboretum for our coffee stop. A very pleasant coffee stop, where we were made most welcome.

Then on through Beale to take a circular route towards Richmond and on country lanes west to the A66 stopping for lunch at the Cross Lanes Organic Cafe just south of Barnard Castle. The Pizza Oven was fired up and one of the group sampled its delights. Some of the rest of us were left wishing that we’d ordered a Pizza as well.

A thoroughly enjoyable route, taking us on some delightful toads that I not visited previously.

The roads were dry and dusty and the bikes were soon picking up a covering.

The return home down through Arkengarthdale, Leyburn and back towards Ripley, although we elected for an impromptu stop at Brymor Ice Cream parlor. Again the route explored new roads for me, past Leighton Reservoir although I have visited How Stean Gorge area previously.

Thank you John Blanchfield, for planning a hugely successful day.
You even booked fantastic weather and dry roads which were for the most part clear.

The bike did need an extensive Jet Wash however!
