March 17th HAB Sunday Ride Out

Next Sunday’s ride out is lead by yours truly ably assisted by Roy Beniston, tail end Charlie, meeting at the usual place, ASDA lorry park at 9.00am with a prompt set off 9.30am.

The planned route is west on the A59 to Bolton Bridge, with a brief stop off at the A59 Cafe for any HAB members who want to join us there (please send me a text before Sunday 07847 786608).

After a quick return to the roundabout at Bolton Bridge, turn left on the B6160 past Bolton Abbey, all the way up to Buckden, taking a left for Hubberholme, going up over the tops and down the long hill to Gayle and Hawes.  Morning break stop is at the Wensleydale creamery (DL8 3RN).

After tea and buns we are going west on a simple route on the A684 towards Sedbergh and then north to the award winning Westmoreland Services located just off the M6/A685 (CA10 3SB) for a hearty Sunday lunch at a reasonable price.  Fuel available here too, also not expensive.

After lunch we are off homeward again, east on the A685, towards Kirkby Stephen, but cutting off right through Nateby.  Too be honest, this next portion of the route is not set in stone.  On the reccy we came across a couple of road closures, so I will research a little further before making a decision.  Nevertheless, we will skirt around Leyburn onto the A6108 towards Ripon.

Planned final stop is Ripley for an ice cream. I will take a poll at lunch for an alternative finish at Brymore Ice Cream just after Jervaulx if members prefer.

Roy and I did a very enjoyable reecy on Monday. The weather was beautiful and the hills snow covered. The weather forecast this week, as you will already know, is not looking so good, so I will keep you posted of any change in plans. Fingers crossed!

Distance 150 miles approx. expected arrival back at Ripley 4.00-4.30.

Hope to see you all there.

All the best.

Barry
