Just a reminder about our club get together this evening starting at 7.00 for 7.30.
Peter Riley is bringing along his Helite Airvest clothing, demonstrating how much it could improve your safety in the event of a fall, and followed by the usual hearty buffet from the cricket club, which should help to pad you out a little more.
Roy Beniston is gearing up to lead his second ride out of the year next Sunday entitled “Coastal, Country & Conifers”.
Meeting at the normal place ASDA lorry park with fuel & toilets available nearby. Please arrive between 9.00am for a chat with a pre-ride briefing before an earlier set off than normal at 9.15am.
The whole route concentrates on ‘B’ roads & minor scenic by-ways with one boring short stretch of main road after the lunch stop. Total mileage 179 miles with a planned fuel stop around lunchtime.
1st Leg-Harrogate to Castle Howard-53 miles. • Head out towards Ripley and turn off for Knaresborough. • Taking back roads via Scotton, Staveley & Minskip to Boroughbridge. • Onto Aldwark Toll Bridge via Lower & Upper Dunsforth. • Continue to Huby and Oswaldkirk, then head toward Hemsley, turning off to Hovingham and onto Castle Howard for mid-morning coffee stop. 2nd Leg-Castle Howard to Filey-34 miles. • Leave Castle Howard heading East and Kirkham Abbey [Note: After joining the A64 be prepared for a first Right Turn for the Abbey]. • Continue via Duggleby, North Grimstead, West & East Lutton and Weaverthorpe towards Filey. • Lunch stop at Reighton Sands or Hunmanby depending on weather conditions. 3rd Leg-Filey to Harrogate-92 miles. • After lunch take the A165 past Filey & Cayton Bay onto Scarborough. • Straight through the centre of Scarborough over the suicide “Valley Bridge” and join up with the A171 toward Whitby [This is the only boring bit of the ride-out so stick with it because it is worth it for what follows]. • Before reaching Whitby after Cloughton we take a left turn to go through Langdale and Dalby Forest trails [approx. 18 miles]. • Note: This left turn is immediately after a sharp rise. The turn off will be a double marked drop off, otherwise you will risk shooting by the junction! • After the forestry trails we end up in Thornton-le-Dale where we can stop for an ice cream if this is the general wish. • We then work our way home via the A170, Kirby Moorside, Helmsley, Sutton Bank, to Thirsk. • Turn left at the roundabout and pickup the A19 with an immediate right turn to join the A168. • Take the off slip-road toward Boroughbridge, staying on the A168 [old A1]. • Straight over all the islands continuing on the A168. • After Boroughbridge take a right turn to Arkendale, straight across the junction to Farnham, Scotton and Ripley where we end our run. ENJOY!!
As this is clearly the last Sunday summer ride out, it would be great to get a good turnout, so take the opportunity to enjoy an entertaining ride lead by Roy with something for everyone to enjoy.
Sadly our Monday evening summer ride outs have come to an end for this year, only because the days are shorter and not because it’s colder of course!
Next Monday 9th at Bilton Cricket Club Peter Riley from Helite Airbag Technology has offered to talk about and demonstrate to us his airbag safety vests for motorcyclists and other sport activities. We spend plenty of money on quality helmets, gloves, armour, traction control and other safety equipment. Thankfully airbag technology is used in motorcycle sport but we could all potentially benefit from it’s use.
Helite are pioneers in Airbag technology, have a look on YouTube or just do an internet search to find out more.
Please use this link for an amusing demo done by Peter a few years ago, you may recognise some of the participants.
About to be blown up!
The meeting starts at the usual time, 7.00pm gathering for a 7.30pm start and Peter Riley’s demonstration beginning shortly after that.
Hopefully all HAB members can come along next Monday evening to appreciate Peter’s Helite Airbag Technology and if you know a friend or motorcycle mate tempted to come over to the Advanced way of riding just mention the usual Bilton Cricket Club excellent buffet I’m sure that will do the trick.
Some HAB members have had difficulties viewing the email regarding next Wednesday’s ride out. If you have pictures mixed up with text, click on the link within the original email and the correct layout will be revealed. Hopefully that will help but if you still have problems please get in touch. barrya.ring@gmail.com

Only a week away from our trip to Cadwell Park British Superbike Racing on Sunday 18th.
The meeting point for this ride will be a Wetherby Services on the A1 9.00am for 9.30 am set off (cheaper fuel at Morrisons in Wetherby). Please spread the word about the change of starting point in case anyone misses this email.
I’ve been to BSB meets at other circuits a few times and always been throughly entertained. Riding on roads has it’s dangers for any normal human but the gladiators on the track are on a different level. Anyone following BSB this year is no doubt amazed by Scott Reading coming into the series straight from MotoGP and leading the Championship after just a few races. He has a fight on his hands with Josh Brookes and Tommy Bridewell, all three of them on the new Ducati Panigale V4R.
The plan is to arrive, be settled in and fed, well before the first Superbike race at 1.30pm followed by a full afternoon of racing including sidecars and the second Superbike race at 4.30pm. If the weather is good taking a picnic might be a good idea but there will be plenty of food stalls available anyway.
A route to the track has been devised involving mostly unclassified and B roads which I hope everyone will enjoy. Please start the day with a full fuel tank. Most riders will need to top up at some point so a short morning break will be combined with a fuel stop. Mileage out 93, return should by roughly the same.
To watch the racing you will of course need a ticket which you can buy in advance for £28 online at: https://cadwellpark.msv.com/CP-19-BSB. You can of course pay at the gate but it will be £34. Seniors price is £27 at the gate, proof no doubt required.
There is another option for anyone not interested in the bike racing or finds the ticket price a little expensive and just wants to come along for the ride. Roy Beniston, our tail end Charlie, doesn’t want to see the racing and is planning to continue to the next town, Louth, only five miles away, where we found a decent pub/restaurant the Greyhound, for lunch with easy parking and fuel nearby. Roy is happy to lead a group home earlier for anyone who takes that option. You should arrive back in good time for Sunday tea.
For those going for the racing the day will be longer but well worth it and we should arrive back in daylight. Please let me know your intentions are when we meet up in the morning.
Any questions please get in touch barrya.ring@gmail.com. A GPX route file is available for anyone who needs it.
This coming Monday’s evening ride out is a jaunt of approximately 40 miles through Wetherby, Boston Spa, Tadcaster and along some very winding roads to the south of York. After that, a quick whizz around the ring road will bring us to The Wetherby Whaler near Poppleton for some splendid fish and chips.
Swing Bridge at Cawood
Meet at the usual place Asda lorry park, Dragon Road, Harrogate 7.00 pm for a 7.30 pm set off. The ride is about 1 hour and 1o minutes long with no worries about fuel as there is petrol station next to our stop near Poppleton.
Those winding roads!
Come along if possible. I do recommend the fish and chips at the Wetherby Whaler, I had some this evening, but don’t tell Kathy.
This month may be our final Monday evening ride of the year as in September the nights will be drawing in. A decision can be made nearer the time.
Passing close to York Marina.
Hopefully the weather will be kind to us as it has been for most of the rides this year. I will be leading the ride, a volunteer tail-end Charlie would be appreciated, you can even borrow my orange waistcoat! Just kidding!
The August Wednesday meeting/ride out will be on Wednesday 7th August and will be lead by John Blanchfield.
Meet at the ASDA lorry park 9.00 for 9.30 departure. We head west on A59 to Skipton, Gargrave, Eshton, Airton over the moors to Settle then Feizor for coffee and best scones ever at Elaine’s Cafe.
From Feizor we join the A65, turn off to Clapham and Ingleton then cross the A65 taking the Bentham Road to Wennington and A683 to Caton. There we turn south to Quernmore, Marshaw and Dunsop Bridge for lunch at the Puddleducks Tea Room there.
From Dunsop Bridge we head east to Newton then take the B6478 to Chatburn, cross the A59 to Downham and join the A6068 just north of Colne, through Laneshaw Bridge, Crosshills, Silsden, A65 to Ilkley, back road to Askwith, Fewston and eventually join the A59 just west of Harrogate.
The ride will finish back at the ASDA lorry park. Total mileage 131m.
