Update for this Sunday’s Ride Out

Richard has finished planning his ride-out for this Sunday and the route will start at our usual meeting point at the ASDA lorry park in Harrogate, anytime from 9.00am for a prompt set off with full fuel tanks at 9.30am.

Outbound Route

Leave Harrogate north via A61 to Ripon and Thirsk, A170 to Helmsley for a coffee and cake stop at Auntie Annies off Castlegate with it’s own parking.

Leaving Helmsley take the B1257, towards Stokesley.

Our lunch stop is at the Marina in Hartlepool where the HMS Trincomalee is moored. Take the road straight through the town centre, following the signs for the Marina (yacht symbol).

As mentioned in the previous post Richard is hoping for a decent length lunch stop to make the most of our visit. (Entrance to the museum is £10, concessions may apply)

Return Route

From the Marina, turn left for a fuel stop at Asda, off the roundabout.

Leave Hartlepool south on the A689/A19. Take the A1044 heading for Yarm (A1044-B1264), then Northallerton- Sandhutton (A167).

And finally the A61 around Ripon finishing at Ripley for an well deserved ice cream!

This is the penultimate Sunday ride-out of the year so hopefully we can have a good turn out.

Best regards

Barry

Sunday 16th September Ride Out

Sunday 16th HAB Ride-Out to see HMS Trincomalee Hartlepool

‘The Oldest Warship Afloat’?

For anyone expecting Paul Dresser to be doing his Lakeland Museum run sadly Paul has had to cancel and sends his apologies.

Thankfully Richard Strembrowicz has stepped into the breach with an excellent alternative.

HMS Trincomalee is reputably the oldest warship afloat, built in India in the 1800’s and fully accessible by the public.  Not as big as HMS Victory but considerably nearer to us! Our Ride Out this coming Sunday, lead by Richard, is taking us to the National Museum of the Royal Navy, Hartlepool TS24 0SQ, where HMS Trincomalee is moored along with other exhibits.  Although there will be an entrance fee it is low and you can gift aid it. Parking is free and catering is on site. Richard is hoping we will get a decent amount of time there so we can make the most from our visit.

Due to Richard stepping in at this point the route is still being finalised, however rest assured, sufficient stops for fuel, sustenance and interesting roads will be factored in.

All in, a very interesting venue to visit, and a fine mixture of roads to ride. The ride is approximately 140 miles so please start with a full tank of fuel and contact the ride leader in good time to fill up.

Looking forward to seeing as many HAB members buying a sailor hat for the kids/grand-kids as possible this Sunday.

GDPR Compliance Form

Dear All,

In order to comply with both GDPR and IAM guidelines we are required to provide our membership with the option to ‘opt out’ of Harrogate Advanced Bikes implied permission to hold and process personal data.

The link to this document is HAB GDPR Declaration

The opening paragraph of this letter describes the context of this agreement.

If you do not respond to this email by submitting the opt-out letter to the Secretary then your acceptance is implied by default.

There is also am outline of our GDPR compliance in the minutes of the last committee meeting. I have also inserted below.

  • Do not hold unnecessary personal information. Example if we see a driving licence and the associate signs to say they have a current licence we do not need to record and keep the details of the licence itself.
  • Any data held should be done so securely (password protected)
  • Private information should only be held by the processor associated with that data and not be held or transmitted to others. (IE treasurer holds list of names for subs and whether paid or not, this list should only be a name and a tick for paid, shouldn’t hold any other information that could identify the person – DOB/Postcode etc. These would be deemed as unnecessary)
  • All personal data on members is held on the IAM DTE database which we can access through a secure portal. This is compliant with GDPR.
  • If we have no requirement for retention of data then it must be destroyed securely or handed back to the associate/member (IE records of riding assessment after passing test, if they contain any personal information and information on lapsed membership)

Indoor Meeting 10th September.

The Club meeting on the 10th September 2018 will be the first indoor meeting of the, dare I say, Winter season. Usual time of 7.30pm at Bilton Cricket Club.

Our speaker for the evening will be Mike Bevington, a National Trust Guide who you may recall gave us the interesting talk on the Air Ambulance Service earlier in the year. His talk is entitled ‘A Walk Round Fountains Abbey’. The talk includes a tour of the world famous Cistercian Abbey, looking at why, when and how it was established; a description of the monks life at the abbey, including the purpose and use of the main areas and why, when and how it was closed down.
Whilst obviously not bike related I’m sure it will of great interest as a prominent local historical site.

Mike is a volunteer and does not charge for his work but he does suggest that we donate a minimum of £1 per person to the National Trust. I’m sure we can oblige. Please make every effort to attend to make our speaker’s time and effort worthwhile and also to reacquaint yourselves with other members you may not have seen for some while.
